CSR Briefing Notes The ICCA CSR Briefing Notes aims to provide topical and thought provoking briefing from the world of Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Culture. Briefing Note 03/08 The Prehistory of Corporate Social Responsibility: Why did Paternalism Fail in France? Paper presented at the Institute for Culture Affairs & European Association for Banking and Financial History Conference, Banque de France, Paris, October 27, 2008 Hubert Bonin is professor in modern economic history at Sciences Po Bordeaux and a member of the GRETHA research centre at Bordeaux 4-University. He is a specialist of the history of services companies (Suez Canal company, colonial and overseas trading houses and their maritime affiliates) and moreover of French banking history (regional banks or Paris deposit and investment banks, with several monograph books and a few handbooks). He is preparing a large history of French Société Générale. As a specialist in business history, he has guided the research program for the history of Ford in Europe and is taking part to several programs in banking and business history alongside French, European, or Asian perspectives. Briefing Note 02/08 Corporate Culture System (CCS) the Intellectual Basis for Global Enterprise in the 21st Century Manfred Pohl is Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Corporate Culture Affairs e. V. Additionally, he is Deputy Chairman of the European Association for Banking History e.V., was the founder of the Gesellschaft für Unternehmensgeschichte e.V. (Association of Business History) and the Society for European Business History e.V as well as the Konvent für Deutschland, all of which he founded. He has been an Honorary Professor at the University of Frankfurt since 1997. Briefing Note 01/08 “Getting the Culture Right“- CSR and Human Resources Nick Tolhurst is Director of the Institute for Corporate Culture Affairs (ICCA), an international non profit organisation based in Frankfurt. He is co-author of a number of books on Corporate Social Responsibility including “The A to Z of CSR” published by Wiley (2007). Briefing Note 01/07 Aron Ghebremariam is currently doing his PhD at Frankfurt University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration focusing on Corporate Social Responsibility. Mr. Ghebremariam received his MBA from the University of Natal in South Africa; his first degree is from Asmara University where he also worked for two years as part of the academic staff.
Briefing Note 02/06 Alyson Warhurst is professor of Strategy & International Development and Director of the Corporate Citizenship Unit at Warwick University Business School. A study carried out by Alyson Warhurst on behalf of the ProVention Consortium explores the business case for reducing natural disaster risks in developing countries and addresses, in particular, the potential for establishing partnerships between the private sector and the humanitarian system. It is intended to stimulate dialogue and help catalyse new ideas and collaborative initiatives involving the business community. The study is available here.

He is Research Director at the University of Cambridge Programme for Industry and was previously Director of Sustainability Services at KPMG in South Africa, is the author/editor of three books on CSR, as well as co-author of the ICCA's latest book, "The A to Z of Corporate Social Responsibility: A Complete Reference Guide to Concepts, Codes and Organisations". |
